Racing: A friend invited me to a Track Quest track weekend at Sears Point/Infineon Racetrack in Dec. of 2004. I had a Porsche Carrea 4 convertible. I think I probably scared to death all of my driving instructors that weekend, but, got very comfortable on the track. I had no idea that our cars could do the things on the track; I was already hooked. I then found out that you cannot Club race in POC or PCA with a convertible. So James Sofronas of GMG Motor sports found a used 2002 GT3 Cup car the spring of 2005 and said that IMSA was starting a new series with Porsche called the GT3 Cup Challenge that summer. Well obviously, I pulled the trigger. We took the car out to the track a few times that year, but did no racing. I went to Skip Barber Race School that December and Uwe Brettel of Porsche and James Sofronas squeezed me into the 2006 IMSA GT3 Cup and I started my racing career. Getting onto the track that first morning at Sebring I felt I was in the middle of a hornet’s nest with all of the cars flying by. IMSA had me on probation for the first few races; my only goal was not to make contact or finish last. As the season went on, I continued to gain confidence and move up farther into the field.
The 2007 IMSA GT3 Cup season was much better with an 8th Place at Utah, 10th and 11th place at Mosport. I also raced in the inaugural year of the Yokohama Drivers Cup scoring three 2nd place podium finishes and getting 2nd for the season behind teammate “Smokin” Steve Valentinetti.
Looking forward to a great 2008 season doing both the IMSA Challenge Cup and the Yokohama Diver’s Cup series, with an occasional Speed World Challenge GT race mixed in.
